- Description
Female kapa haka group inside the Ruatoria Memorial Hall, Gisborne. Shows a group of young women wearing traditional Maori dress, seated and standing in front of a panelled exterior wall. The wall features painted kowhaiwhai rafters, infills of tukutuku (woven, patterned lattice-work panels) and woven reeds, painted wooden panels, and a central carved poupou figure.
The phrases: `For God, For King and Country' and `Nga Kura Nei' can be read on the tukutuku panels. The painted wood panels read: `He Tohu Aroha / ki a / Rutu Manutawhiorangi / Nana te Kaupapa o te / Whakarua Park' and `He Tangi Tawhiti / ki a / 2ndLt. Te Moananui-a-Kiwa / Ngarimu / V.C.'
