Description

Captain Gilbert Mair, 22 February, 1921, photographed by James Cowan. He is standing next to the grave of Captains Travers and White and others of the armed constabulary who were killed in the Ruatahuna campaign of the New Zealand Wars on May 4th to 6th 1869.

This image was used as a frontispiece to "Reminiscences and Maori stories" by Captain Gilbert Mair.
