Description: Illustration to an account of a practical joke said to have been played at Petworth on one `Mr D-', a parson, who was heard to make an assignation for the night with Margery, one of the servants. The man was made drunk and put to bed with an ass foal dressed in a petticoat. Shows the drunk semi-clothed parson being carried towards a canopied bed under which Margarey has hidden. On the other side of the bed two men are lifting the foal into the bed. Petworth House, West Sussex. Description: Cartoon at the top entitled `Statuesque' shows a group of young women looking at a young man posing on a pedestal as though a statue. Through an open door comes an old woman (schoolmistress), and behind her in the room can be seen another young woman (Barbara). The caption below reads: Barbara making a call on Mrs Griffen (her old schoolmistress), impudently takes her cousin with her, and leaves him in the hall. During the interview, a great scuffling and giggling is heard behind the door. Mrs G angrily rushes to see the cause - Tableau!! As Tom excused himself to Barbara, "The vacant pedestal was irresistable!" Cartoon at the bottom entitled `The portrait', shows a young woman and a young girl painting portraits of their charwoman. The nurse who answered the phone and transferred the call to Kate's private nurse, committed suicide three days later, sparking international outrage against the DJs. Smaller text below says 'as for putting naiols in trees...well!...trees need to be saved..so we can chop 'em down for newsprint'. The cartoonist's signature has been crossed out and replaced with the signature 'Lou x'. Refers to a middle of the night prank in Invercargill in which a 22-year-old Wellington design student "Lou", went on a decorating spree that she said was simply an attempt to cheer people up. "To be honest everyone is just talking about depression at the moment and the weather down here has been pretty crap, so basically I just wanted to see people smile and happiness is contagious."
