Description: Pencil sketch shows a two-funnelled ship flying a Dutch flag, seen from the right side, with the houses and peak of Mount Victoria in the background. There are two radio masts on Mount Victoria, and a sign "2ZB" between them. The ship in the drawing has two funnels and is flying a Dutch flag; this may identify it as the 'Nieuw Amsterdam', but it could also the 'Johann van Oldenbarnevelt' or the 'Willem Ruys'; all visited Wellington Harbour during the second World War, and have a similar appearance to the ship in this drawing. Date estimated from article in Evening Post, 6 September 1945, Page 8: "In January, 1941, came the beautiful Nieuw Amsterdam, pride of the Netherlands merchant marine. This ship made no fewer than eight visits to Wellington, six of them during 1943, when she carried large quotas of United States troops across the Pacific". This was part of the technology to change Radio Windy's radio frequency from 1080khz to 890khz, and thus enable the station to broadcast to a wider area.
