Inscriptions: Verso - Evening Post caption, attached to back of print, reads: "The biggest single blasting job of the scheme took place at the Benmore hydro project last week when more than 17,000lbs of explosives were used in this shot on the spillway intake cut above the main dam site. The cut, leading to the spillway gates and sluices, will eventually be 100ft deep. Designed to cope with the worst flood likely to occur in 1000 years, the spillway will be able to pass 120,000 cusecs compared withe the Waitaki's average flow of 12,000 cusecs. the completed job will have involved the removal of 700,000 cu yds of rock and overburden, and the placing of 150,000 cu yds of concrete."; Verso - stamped in ink - 9 Mar 1960
