Whakarewarewa

Model Māori village or Pā at Whakarewarewa. Idea conceived by T E Donne, General Manager of the Tourist Department. Guide and boat builder Alfred Warbrick was commissioned to establish the layout of the village and control the work of the hired carvers. Opened for tourist display in 1910, with carvers including Tene Waitere and Anaha Te Rahui having contributed to the work.
