Description

The first buildings around the Avon River, in what was to become central Christchurch. Flax growing in the foreground and a bridge over the river. The Port Hills are in the distance. The area shown is Oxford Terrace, with the Worcester Street bridge on the right in the middle distance. The dark two-storied house left of centre is the house of Dr A C Barker. The central two-storied house is that of William Guise Brittan. The Lands Office is left of the bridge
