H. M. S. North Star in the foreground with sails furled. Small boats and soldiers landing on a flat area with houses in the background. A high hill with further soldiers silhouetted against flames and black smoke. The scene is lit by moonlight.
Formerly attributed to Cyprian Bridge and reproduced as one of the Turnbull Prints under Bridge's name
During its time in New Zealand waters, the H. M. S. "North Star" was commanded by Sir Everard Home, Bart. (See letter from John Raymond, at AT 13/14/1, 2 Dec 2002, for further information about the commanders of the "North Star" and "Hazard" at this time).
Exhibited in 'Two centuries of New Zealand landscape art' Exhibition at Auckland City Art Gallery, 2 February - 22 April 1990.
The name of the Pa is correctly Otuihu, not Otiuhu
Exhibited in 'Nga Kupu Korero: People of the Treaty speak' exhibition held at the National Library Gallery in 1992, which toured New Zealand.
Exhibited in 'Treasures in Trust' exhibition to celebrate 75th anniversary of the Alexander Turnbull Library in 1995.
