Include correspondence with other scientists, mainly relating to Mr Dawson's particular areas of scientific research and interest - benthic ecosystems of the offshore waters of the New Zealand region, especially the deep-sea areas consisting of the Chatham Rise and the Campbell Plateau in the Sub-Antarctic. Includes offprints of articles by Dawson relating to his research and wider interests, offprints of articles by other scientists, biographies, obituaries, and newspaper cuttings. Also contains John Cameron Yaldwyn's research papers on scientist Laurence R Richardson, which have been added to by Dawson. These papers include personal and professional correspondence between Yaldwyn and Richardson. Elliot Dawson was a senior biologist with the New Zealand Oceanographic Institute, DSIR, Wellington, from 1955-1990. During this period he took part in oceanographic cruises in NZOI and other vessels, and led expeditions to the Northern Cook Island, and the Auckland and other Sub-Antarctic Islands. From 1981 he was an Honorary Research Associate of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
