Clark, Keith S, 1921-

Graphic artist, born in Hull. He worked in an advertising agency before being called up in the Second World War, when he served in Europe and visited galleries. He took the chance to study at the grand Chaumiere while stationed in Paris. He married after the war and worked in India for five years, then migrated to New Zealand in 1952. In Auckland he worked for Ryder Advertising, Haythorn-Thwaite Advertising (working on the TEAL account), Haines, Goldbergs, Dormer-Beck (DB Brown beer), Carlton Carruthers du Chateau and King (again working on the TEAL account with Linwood Lipanovic and Arthur Thompson). In the 1970s he worked for the Auckland Star, and in the 1980s with the New Zealand Herald ("Encounter" column). See further biographical details at http://www.nzda.ac.nz/graphic/designers/nobby/. He also worked on campaigns for key brands such as Formica, Betta and Sanitarium and helped to develop the well-known New Zealand characters 'Ches' and 'Dale' through early Chesdale Cheese campaigns.
