- Scott, Robert Falcon, 1868-1912; Gran, Jens Tryggve Herman, 1889-1980; Bowers, Henry Robertson, 1883-1912; Levick, George Murray, 1877-1956; Priestley, Raymond Edward (Sir), 1886-1974; Debenham, Frank, 1883-1965
Photographs taken by Scott, Gran, Bowers, Levick and Priestly during the British Antarctic ("Terra Nova") Expedition (1910-1912). The last photographs of the relief party, searchers and final scenes of the memorial cairn were taken by Frank Debenham.
A photocopy of a letter written by Robert Falcon Scott on March 24th, 1912, to Joseph Kinsey is attached inside the first page. It begins "My dear Kinsey" and ends "Your friend R. Scott". The letter was written a few days before Scott died.
Images include landscapes, bird and animal life in Antarctica, and the activities associated with the expedition. Scenes show the ponies Scott used, man-hauling when the men hauled their own sleds, and tents, huts and igloos at various stops.
The last pages show the relief party who came searching for Scott's immediate group who died on their way back from the South Pole, with views of the cairn erected in their memory.
