- Description
Co-leader of the Maori Party, Pita Sharples, stands on a beach with Prime Minister, John Key, who is drawing a line in the sand with the words 'No Compensation'. Refers to the Prime Minister indicating that compensation might be excluded from an agreement to recognise Maori customary rights over the foreshore and seabed, something that Pita Sharples is 'relaxed' about. John Key has said he is optimistic that a cross-party consensus can be achieved on a replacement for the law without the taxpayer having to fork out hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation to iwi. He says that there seems to be agreement among the parties in Parliament that compensation is unlikely to be part of a final settlement.
