Description

Shows a view of a coastal settlement spread along the water's edge, backed by bush-clad hills, and seen from the water. Thames, originally named Shortland, was established in 1867 as a goldmining town, but had grown to the size shown here by 1870. The buildings depicted are likely to include miners' houses, hotels and stamper batteries
