Gnatt, Poul Rudolph, 1923-1995

Born in Baden, Vienna in 1923. Ballet dancer, teacher and director. Educated at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, graduated into the Royal Danish Ballet in 1939. Settled in Auckland, New Zealand in 1952 with second wife Rigmor Stroyberg and two sons. Founder and first Artistic Director of the New Zealand Ballet from 1953 to 1962. In the 1960s Gnatt and Rigmor had two more sons. Further period as Artistic Director with the Ballet from 1969 to 1971. Founder of Dance Theatre in the Phillipines. Received a Queen's Service Order in 1983, retired to Otaki in 1990s
