Description: A huge explosion and fire seen across the water, with a ship sailing away The title of this work, written in a later hand on the reverse, has been transcribed, possibly from a discarded mount, as 'The evacuation of Salonika'. However Salonika (Thessaloniki, in North Greece) was not evacuated in 1915, and the other watercolours by Allfree show scenes at Gallipoli. It seems likely that the original title read Suvla, not Salonika Other Titles - Salonika (former title) Inscriptions: Recto - Title in pencil in a later hand. Possibly transcribed from a mount, now removed. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Watercolour, 10 x 14 ins
