Huata, Wi te Tau, 1917-1991

Ngāti Kahungunu; Anglican priest, military chaplain. Started at Te Aute College as a pupil in 1933. Was ordained at Takitimu, Wairoa. Was a chaplain with the Māori Battalion during World War II (Serial No. 817470). Resided Hastings in 1991. Canon Huata wrote his name as te Tau Huata. In 1947 he married Ringahora Heni Ybel Tomoana of Ngati Kahungunu (the daughter of Paraire Tomoana and his wife Kuini Raerena).
