Son of Sir Charles John Johnston and brother of Octavius Ralph Featherston. Served in the South African War with North Staffordshire Regiment 1902. Seconded from the British Army. Member of the NZEF, Cdg 3rd NZ (Rifle) Brigade. Brigadier General. Commanded the 1st NZ Brigade at Gallipoli. Husband of Gwen Johnston.
