Firefighters and Wellington Free Ambulance officers assisting a man trapped in his car after an accident, Ngauranga Gorge, Wellington. Photographs taken circa 21 June 1996 by Evening Post staff photographer Ross Giblin.

Jaws of Life equipment broke down when firemen attempted to help this man. The firemen said they had warned management repeatedly that the equipment was outdated, unreliable, and in need of replacement.
