Ngati Haua leader, kingmaker, King Movement leader. Probably born in 1844 or 1845, Taingakawa was known in his youth as Tana Te Waharoa, or Tana Taingakawa Te Waharoa; later known as Tupu Taingakawa. Second son of Wiremu Tamihana Tarapipipi Te Waharoa and Pare Te Kanawa (Wikitoria). Married Rakapa. Father of Tarapipipi Te Waharoa (the 3rd kingmaker, who was crowned Koroki in 1933). Was involved in two missions to England, where delegates attempted to lay Maori grievances before the crown.
