Lieutenant Shannon, W.R.V. (Wellington Volunteer District), 1883. Promoted to Major in the New Zealand Militia in 1885, also farmer at Karehana Bay. Married Emily Jane Hewitt. Son - Graham. Daughters - Minnie and Margaret. Founder of Wellington Manawatu Railway Company. Town of Shannon named after him.
