Description

Photographs relating to Maori (possibly images for King's book Maori; a photographic and social history, Auckland, N.Z. : Heineman, 1983). Includes an image of Te Rangi Pai taken circa 1902 and another of Mary Takao.

Includes photographs relating to the following books by Michael King - Moko (tattooed Maori women). Biography of Dame Whina Cooper. Death of the Rainbow warrior. Biography of Frank Sargeson. The history of the Moriori. The Chatham Islands (A Land Apart). Coromandel. History of Catholics in New Zealand. Biography of Janet Frame.

Other photographs relate to the TV series `Tangatawhenua' from 1974. Photographs of Tom Ashby, Earl of Beaument, probably date from King's time as a journalist on the Waikato Times. Photographs relating to Reuel Lochore (New Zealand diplomat) and his wife Dorothy Davies (pianist). Photographs taken during trips abroad in the 1970s and 1990s. Photographs of family and friends.
