Gilsemans, Isaak, 1606?-1646

Worked for the Dutch East India Company. Supercargo and draughtsman aboard the 'Zeehaen' under the command of Abel Tasman. Born Rotterdam. He had gone from Holland to India in 1634 as a corporal and joined the Zeehaen as 'sub-cargo' rising to 'super cargo' in May 1642. His widow remarried in 1647, so he must have died between 1643 and 1647. Produced the first known European drawings of New Zealand and of Maori
