Orbell, Geoffrey Buckland (Dr), 1908-2007

Ophthalmologist, cabinet maker, boat and house builder, skilled shot (founder of the NZ Deerstalkers' Association), tramper, fisherman and local body politician. Remembered most for his rediscovery in 1948 of the takahe (flightless blue-green, hen-like bird with bright red bill) in the depths of Fiordland.
