Waitara, Charles, 1854-1910

Taranaki chief. Came to Parihaka in the 1880s from the Wellington area. Also known as Charles Waitara, belonged to Te Ati Awa; second son of Hana Waitara. Name transcribed from "Ask that mountain : the Story of Parihaka" by Dick Scott, 1975, page 144. Note on back of file print of 1/1-012051 reads: "Taare Waitara was the son-in-law of Te Whiti".
