Description: The "Ventnor", carrying the bodies of 500 Chinese who died in New Zealand, struck a reef south of Cape Egmont on 27 October 1902 and sank the following day. These two lifeboats reached Omapere on 29 October, and ten other survivors on a third lifeboat were rescued by the steamer "Energy". The fourth lifeboat, carrying the captain and 15 others, was lost.
