Sears, Frederick W, active 1890s-1900s

Photographer on Richard Seddon's tour of the South Pacific in 1900. Sears was a staff member of the Lithographic Branch of the New Zealand Government Printing Office. He developed an improved photo-offset lithographic reproduction process which he called the "High Light" process. It was developed in partnership with a Chicago inventor, Ira W Rubel, and given the name "Alzinography" (See 'Penrose's pictorial annual" for 1908/09). He was also an artist for souvenir cards and illustrated addresses, including some made for the Royal tour in 1901 (See NZ freelance, 13 July 1901, page 3, column c). In the 1905/06 issue of Penrose's pictorial annual his address was Berhampore, Wellington; in the following issue it was at Leytonstone, England, where he had retired.
