Makeig, Mary Amelia, 1855-1943

New Zealand artist. Painted in oils.

Born in Hobart, Tasmania, 18 December 1855 to George Andrewes Makeig (died 12 Oct 1889) and Eliza Harriet Dean (died 17 Feb 1901).

Listed in Wises Post Office Directory for 1906 as a Teacher of painting, Cathedral Square, Christchurch. Exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington, between 1898-1911. An oil of Sydney Heads is held in a New Zealand private collection, acquired in Christchurch in the early twentieth century.

Died in 1943 aged 84 years. Buried in Christchurch, as were her parents and some of her siblings.
