An elder daughter of Wi Parata Te Kakakura Waipunaahau (Ngati Toa, Te Ati Awa) and Unaiki Whareangiangi Pukehi (Ngati Toa, Ngati Rahiri, Ngati Raukawa). Te Mahia died in 1936, aged about 76 years.
