Miroslav Josef Smutny, born in Czechoslavakia, submitting his naturalisation certificate for counter signing by the Mayor, R L Macalister, and a representative of Internal Affairs, Ted Fairway, at the first public naturalisation ceremony in New Zealand. Photographed in Wellington on 24th May 1955 by an unidentified Evening Post staff photographer.
