Firth, Joseph Pentland, 1859-1931

Born Cobden in Westland; attended Westland College (where he adopted the middle name Pentland); married Jessie McCrae in 1889. School principal. Assistant headmaster of Wellington College, 1881-1886; headmaster from 1892-1920. Represented Nelson Province and Wellington in rugby and coached and played cricket; NZ representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
