Lyttelton Times Company Ltd

Christchurch publisher of the Lyttelton Times newspaper; merged with Taranaki Daily in 1925 and with Brett Printing and Publishing Company in 1929 to form New Zealand Newspapers Ltd. Three storey brick and cement facade building at 134-140 Gloucester street, Christchurch. Erected for the Lyttelton Times Company in 1884. The first newspaper from this building was printed on 15 March 1884. The Lyttelton Times newspaper closed in 1935. 'The Star' and 'Canterbury Times' newspapers were printed from this building for many years. Architect was J.J Collins. Circa 1900 additions were made to the Cathedral Square frontage by architects A&A Luttrell. Damaged in the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes. Demolished in 2012 (see NZ Historic Places Trust record #3731).
