Hart, Robert, 1814-1894

Barrister and solicitor, member of the first parliament in 1853, and called to the Legislative Council in 1872. He arrived in New Zealand in 1843; one of first partners with Treadwells, solicitors in Wellington, established 1840. Circa 1867 he established the legal firm of Hart & Buckley with Patrick Buckley. On his retirement in 1887 the partnership was dissolved. In 1867 he married Catherine (née McLean; 1824-1897), sister of Sir Donald McLean. Brother of George Hart of Canterbury.
