Tremain, Garrick, 1941-
Landscape painter since 1971 and free-lance cartoonist for the Otago Daily Times (since 1988) and other daily papers. Former occupations farming (1957-1959) and advertising (1959-1969). Retired from doing cartoons for the Christchurch Press and the Otago Daily Times early 2007 but continued to do Saturday cartoons for the Press. Started daily cartoons again for the ODT from end of 2007. Garrick Tremain's early working years were spent in the farming and advertising worlds before years of extensive travel. In 1971 he settled in the Queenstown area where he established himself as a successful landscape painter. In 1988 he began political cartooning and for over 20 years his work appeared daily in several New Zealand newspapers. He has published 16 books of collected cartoons and written New Zealand's biggest selling book of verse.
