Artist. Daughter of Charles Hill (hatter) and Eliza Ann Hulbert Hill. Sister of Alfred Hill the composer. Born Auckland. Moved to Wellington in 1875. Attended Wellington School of Design in about 1890. Account of wedding, 12 January 1898, to Dunedin printer John McIndoe (with photos) in NZ Mail, 20 January 1898, page 21. The couple lived in Dunedin, and Mabel joined the Otago Art Society. Mother of Archibald McIndoe (1900-1960), John Leslie McIndoe (1898-1995) and Elizabeth Mason. Used her maiden name in her art. After her husband's death in 1926 she travelled extensively in Europe. At the end of the Second World War she moved to Sussex, England, and died there in 1956.
