Maori leader, accountant, Maori Battalion veteran. Born at Waiomatatini, East Coast. Youngest son of Sir Apirana Ngata. Served in Maori Battalion. Captured in Greece and was prisoner of war 1941-1945. Married Lorna, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Mete-Kingi, of Wanganui in 1940.
Accountant and involved in agriculture in Gisborne area. Ngati Porou, Aitanga a Mahaki, Rongowhakaata. Chaired the Mangatu Incorporation 1959-1987, and served on various bodies including as an inaugural member of the Māori Council in 1962. Received a knighthood (KBE) in 1982.
