Enys, John Davies, 1837-1912

Naturalist and co-owner, with his brother Charles Enys, of Castle Hill Station, Canterbury. See DNZB (Vol 2, 1870-1900, p133-134). Davies Gilbert was his grandfather and a witness at the christening, thus his name was written down in John's diary after his birth so that it looks as if it is part of John's name. But the parish register record, birth certificate etc etc - will, and so on clearly show this is a mistake - verified by an Enys descendant in the UK (information from Jenny Abrahamson, Canterbury, March 2014)
