Moore, Mike, 1949-2020

Born in Whakatāne and grew up in Moerewa and Kawakawa in the Far North. Left school at 14, and became New Zealand's youngest Member of Parliament when he won the Mount Eden seat aged 23 in 1972. Later MP for Papanui 1978-1999. Minister of Overseas Trade, of Sport and Tourism 1984-1990, of External Relations 1987-1990 and Deputy Minister of Finance 1988-1990. Leader of the Labour Party 1990-1993. Prime Minister Sept-Nov 1990. Director-General of the World Trade Organisation September 1999-2002. New Zealand Ambassador to the United States 2010-2015. In 1990 received the Commemoration Medal and in 1999 he was given the Order of New Zealand.
