Hoyte, John Clark, 1835-1913

Artist, resident in Auckland from 1861, Dunedin from 1875. Travelled widely around New Zealand and painted. Art teacher and founder of the Auckland Society of Arts in 1871. Shifted to Australia, 1879. Although the middle name Barr is given in some sources, Hoyte does not appear to have used it and normally signed his work J.C.Hoyte.
