Hantler, Mark, 1957-2017

Mark Hantler trained as a photographer at Wellington Polytechnic in 1979. Worked as a photographer for the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, National Museum, and later as a photographer for film productions, such as 'The Silent One', 'The Quiet Earth', and 'Heart of the Stag'. In the 1990s he worked as a photographer for the TVNZ Natural History Unit, based in Dunedin. When TVNZ sold the Natural History Unit, Hantler left and began the coffee roasting business 'Bravo Coffee Roasters'.

Hantler also took documentary photographs on his own account, including photographs of the 1981 Springbok rugby tour protests.

Description: Photographs taken by Mark Hantler, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. Includes negatives, proof sheets, photographic prints, and a selection of digital surrogate images relating to the 1981 Springbok Tour protests, portraits, landscapes, photographs relating to the production of films, Auckland Ballet, family, friends and colleagues. Includes a small number of photographs given to Mark Hantler by other photographers. Some pencil annotations on verso of prints may be by Chris Lipscombe. The Library also holds photographs by Mark Hantler in the Real Pictures Ltd collection; see Library reference PAColl-0006.
