Waite, Keith, 1927-2014

Keith Waite was born near New Plymouth in 1927. Between 1947 and 1949, he contributed cartoons to the Taranaki Daily News. While attending the Elam School of Fine Art in 1948-1949, he sold more cartoons to the NZ Herald and the Weekly News. He was appointed staff cartoonist at the Otago Daily Times in 1949. Two years later he went to Britain. He was on the staff of the Glasgow Daily Record and Glasgow Evening News in 1952 and 1953; the Daily Sketch in London from 1954 to 1965; the Sun from 1965 to 1969; and the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror thereafter. He was also a regular Punch contributor between 1953 and 1966. (Ian Grant "The unauthorized version : a cartoon history of New Zealand 1840-1987" p.134)
