Anderton, Jim, 1938-2018

President NZ Labour Party 1979-1984. Elected to parliament 1984 as Labour member for Sydenham, (now Wigram). Resigned to form New Labour Party 1988. Leader of the Alliance until Jul 2002. Deputy Prime Minister 1999-2002. From Aug 2002 Minister for Economic Development, for Industry and Regional Development, Minister Responsible for the Public Trust, Associate Minister of Health. Instigator of the Kiwibank. Former businessman, teacher, and city councillor. Son of William Anderton. Co-chairman of the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust.
