Russell, Guy, 1868-1960

Sheep farmer, military leader. Farmed at Tunanui, near Hastings. Commander of the NZ Mounted Rifles Brigade. The plateau on which he established his HQ at Gallipoli became known as Russell's Top. In 1915 he was awarded the KCMG. Husband of Gertrude Mary Beetham (née Williams; 1873-1976). Father of Margaret (Margot) Gertrude Lowry (1906-1993). See DNZB (Vol 3, 1901-1920, p449-451, R34)
