Paitini Wi Tapeka, 1844?-
Of Ngai Tuhoe, Ngati Maru, one of Elsdon Best's main informants on Tuhoe history. Fought against the British at Orakau, marched with Te Kooti. Descendant of Maru-wahia, the original owner of the patu "Te Whiu". Married to Makurata Hineore (Makurata Himiona), former wife of Te Kooti and an expert weaver, who died in the 1930s, aged 93. Tuhoe man who acted as a guide for Lord Ranfurly and his party during the Governor's visit to the Ureweras in 1904. In 1904 it was estimated that he was about sixty years old.
