Smith, Edgar McLeod, 1875-1950

Writer, artist, illustrator, commercial artist. Born in Christchurch, the son of William Sidney Lovell-Smith, he attended Canterbury College School of Art, Kensington School of Art in Bristol (UK) and Technical School, Bolt Court, London. Joined J T Smith and Anthony as a lithographer in 1890 and was a director of Smith & Anthony Ltd 1908-1926. He wrote for Christchurch newspapers and the `Otago Witness'. Painted in oil and watercolour, mainly coaching subjects. Author of `Old coaching days in Otago and Southland', and `Coaching in Canterbury'
