Christchurch bootmaker, trade unionist and parliamentarian. Born in Northhamptonshire UK; came to NZ 1879; with Knights of Labour 1892; in bootmakers' Union, then became president of Christchurch Shearers' Union 1893. Liberal Member of Parliament for Heathcote and then Avon 1890-1908
