Fenton, Francis Dart, 1828-1898

Magistrate, judge, public administrator, musician. Born in Huddersfield, England. Son of Francis Tarrant Fenton and Frances (née Ashby). Married Martha Connell in Auckland, they had four daughters (Ellen/Nellie (Mrs Thomas Hope Lewis), Edith, Annie (Mrs Charles William Egerton) and Dorothy Frances (Mrs George Carnegy Wilkie)) and two sons (Roger Edward and Carleton Hugh). Became vice president and chairman of the Auckland Choral Society in 1866. See Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (Vol 1, 1769-1869, p. 121-122).
