MWWL, New Zealand Māori Women's Welfare League, Te Rōpū Wāhine Māori Toko I Te Ora

The MWWL held its inaugural conference in Wellington in September 1951, with 187 branches represented. The first president was Whina Cooper and the first patron was Te Puea Herangi. An early major project was a survey of Maori housing. Operating at a local and national level, the League has been concerned with a wide range of health, child welfare, employment and education matters affecting Maori
