Waikato leader, newspaper editor, warrior, secretary to the Maori King. Ngati Mahuta. Editor and chief writer for the King Movement's newspaper. The printing press he supervised at Ngaruawahia was a gift in 1860 from Archduke Maximilian to two Waikato Maori who had trained at the state printing house at Vienna. Te Tuhi was a regular model for the painter Goldie whom he met in 1901. He was also photographed (see file print of photograph 1/2-027119). He was a cousin of King Tawhiao. In 1884, he visited the Grace family in England with King Tawhiao. (See Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, vol 1, 1769-1869, p 510-511)
