Description: Coastline, New Plymouth, circa 1861. Looks along a beach, towards the distant Sugar Loaf Islands. Richmond Cottage, is just visible, left of centre. Photographer unidentified. Richmond Cottage was constructed from stone in 1854 and located at St Aubyn Street, New Plymouth, for Christopher William and Emily Elizabeth Atkinson. Occupied by the Richmond family for many years. Became an accommodation place in the 1880s. Moved in the early 1960s to Pukeariki Landing, Ariki Street. Administered by Puke Ariki/ New Plymouth Museum. Description: Charles Yates Fell photograph album. Many of the photographs taken by C Y Fell. Album created as a memory for relative, Alice Blake (nee Richmond), including portraits and group portraits of family and friends; scenes of holidays around the Totaranui, Abel Tasman National Park area; and the homes of the Richmond family (Fairfield) and the Fell family (St John's) in Nelson. One image shows all the members of the New Zealand House of Representatives 3rd Parliament in 1851 (Most are named). Many of the images are of festive occasions with large family gatherings, including Xmas parties and costumes for a fancy-dress ball at Totaranui (January 1890). Description: Collection of 12 daguerreotypes made by Antoine Claudet at his London studio at 107 Regent Street, circa 1852, of members of the Richmond and Atkinson families, shortly before many of them immigrated to New Zealand. The collection also contains one albumen carte de visite of Naomi Rose Atkinson photographed by Joseph Langridge who operated under the trade name Merrick, circa 1860s. Title supplied by Library. Related portraits, one cased albumen print and one cased daguerreotype, at Library reference PA10-120 and PA10-121. There are other Richmond and Atkinson family photographs at PA-Group-00601.
