Allom, Albert James, 1825-1909

Son of Thomas Allom (1804-1872) and brother of Charles Edwin Allom (d 1849); born and educated in London, he came as a survey cadet in the Brougham under S C Brees to Wellington Feb 1842. Surveyor for the New Zealand Company, later private secretary to E G Wakefield, civil servant for the Auckland Provincial Government and for the General Government (Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Auckland volume 1, page 423-424, with portrait; and DNZB / Scholefield (Vol 1, p11-12))
